A reminder about Calgary’s green cart program
Weekly pickup of the City of Calgary green cart program is resuming on May 19th, so now is a good time to remind yourself about what can (and can’t) go inside your green bin.
YES, this can go in:
- Plate scrapings
- Fruits and vegetables (pits, too)
- Meat, poultry and bones
- Fish and shells
- Bread, grains and rice
- Pastries and baked goods
- Eggs and shells
- Milk and dairy products
- Cooking oil, fats and grease
- Condiments and sauces
- Nuts, seeds, chips, candy and popcorn
- Food soiled paper
- Leaves, pinecones and needles
- Plants and flowers
- Branches, twiges and prunings
- Grass clippings, weeds and sod
- Garden soil and mulch
- Hay and straw
- Dog waste
- Kitty litter
- Pet fur and hair
- Pet food
- Cold barbeque and fire pit ashes
- Untreated lumber
- Wood shavings
- Wooden popsicle sticks
- Chopsticks and toothpicks
No, this can’t go in:
- Plastic bags
- Metal
- Plastic
- Stickers from fruits and vegetables
- Diapers and personal hygiene items
- Painted or treated wood
- Fabrics or textiles
Green carts are currently collected once every other week on the same day as blue carts. Please set your cart out by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Our bins hold up to 60 kg of waste. If your green cart is full, you can put out extra paper yard waste bags. Place bags 0.5m (2 ft) to the side of the cart. [City of Calgary]
