11 Ways to Celebrate Canada Day in Calgary & Airdrie

Canada’s 148th birthday is coming up next Wednesday, and the City of Calgary and the City of Airdrie have lots of exciting events for you to take in and celebrate Canada Day! Here’s a list of family-friendly Canada Day events happening next Wednesday, July 1st:

CALGARY

Event: First Nations Powwow
Location:
Prince’s Island Park
Time: 10 am to 6 pm
Details: a traditional powwow presented by Bow Valley College’s Iniikokaan Aboriginal Centre, learn about the First Nations via their storytelling, music and dancing. 

Event: Living Canada flag
Location:
 Prince’s Island Park
Time: 11 am to 12 pm
Details: wear a red or white shirt and come be part of the annual living Canada flag. The first 3,000 people will receive a free shirt.

Event: Food Truck Roundup
Location:
 Eau Claire Plaza (near YMCA)
Time: 11 am to 11 pm
Details: lots of your favourite food trucks will be coming together in Eau Claire to serve up delicious food all day! Have a picnic and enjoy all the great food.

Event: Riverfront Festivities
Location:
 Harry Hays Building (facing Bow River)
Time: 7 pm  to 11 pm
Details: food trucks and the Beatnik Bus will be on-hand while several amazing musical acts take the stage: Dear Rouge, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith and headliners—Stars.

Event: Fireworks
Location:
 Centre Street Bridge
Time: 10:45 pm (approximate)
Details: always a city favourite, grab a good spot and view the fireworks!

AIRDRIE

Event: Airdrie Parade
Location:
 Main Street
Time: 9 am to 1 pm
Details: the annual Airdrie Parade down Main Street, lots of family-friendly fun.

Event: Canada Day BBQ
Location:
 Airdrie Public Library
Time: 11 am to 2:30 pm
Details: this BBQ is put on courtesy of the Butcher Shoppe and kicks-off right after the parade finishes.

Event: Fireworks
Location:
 Chinook Winds Park
Time: 8 pm to 11 pm
Details: in addition to the fireworks, there will also be family events and food vendors on-hand.

Event: Fill the Fire Truck
Location:
 Main Street
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Details: During the Airdrie Parade, the Airdrie Fire Department will be collecting items for the Airdrie Food Bank, bring a non-perishable food item.

Event: Canada Day Breakfast
Location:
 Towerlane Centre
Time: 8 am to 10 am
Details: Come out for breakfast: each meal is $3 and all the money goes back into the community.
