2020 Alberta Winter Games in Airdrie

There are only four more days before the 2020 Alberta Winter Games begin! From February 14th to 17th, more than 2,800 of the top athletes, coaches, and officials will gather in and around Airdrie to compete in a variety of sports! From Gymnastics to Ringette, Genesis is proud to be a Gold Sponsor and host to many of these events at Genesis Place. From welcoming and supporting diverse talents to motivating Albertans to get active, we at Genesis believe that sport has the power to build stronger community relationships.

About the Alberta Winter Games

The first-ever Alberta Winter Games were founded by Alberta Sport Connection and held in Banff in 1976 and involved all age groups including participants over the age of 55. In 1986 however, the Alberta Sport Council initiated a new concept for the Games, one that would emphasize developing athletes from ages 11 – 17 and would take place every two years. Here are the Alberta Winter Games events scheduled at Genesis Place.

You can watch the Opening Ceremonies on the big screens at 7 pm and then enjoy some family fun afterward. The City Hall parking lot will also be transformed so everyone can watch the show and cheer on the athletes, enjoy live art, fire breathing dragons, DJ entertainment, and warm beverages and snacks. We encourage you to bundle up as the event will be taking place entirely outdoors.

Plus if you want even more winter fun, the Alberta Winter Games will be hosting a Skating Party on Monday, February 17th. You can find more details here.
