5 Things to do with Your Family This Holiday Season
The holiday season is upon us with a fresh sprinkle of snow, Christmas lights lighting up the streets and extra time spent cozied up by the fire at home. It’s also the season of finding fun activities to keep the kiddos entertained on the weekends and once school holidays start. We put together a list of activities the whole family will love and hopefully tire the little ones out.
Festive Lights
Whether you live in Airdrie or Calgary, there are lots of options for light shows (including just walking around the neighbourhood). Our two favourites spots to go are Airdrie Festival of Lights and ZooLights. Airdrie Festival of Lights is celebrating their 25th year so you’re in for a real treat. They’re open nightly from 6-9pm from now until December 31.
ZooLights is another great option to bring your kids. The magical tradition runs from now until January 2 from 5-9pm. Not only do they have the fun lights to see but also a holiday Zoo Market, firepits, a skating rink and axe throwing.
Christmas Markets

Holiday Baking
The kitchen is the heart of the home and during Christmas its always full of activity, especially when the weather gets colder outside. Teach your kids your favourite holiday recipes or have them decorate gingerbread cookies for Santa. Get Dressed up for the Theatre
Take your family to see some of the Christmas classics, live and in person. In Airdrie, check out Winter Fantasia 2021 – a showcase of the work of the MRU Conservatory choral ensembles, including Ariel, Arietta, and Arioso, with the Conservatory Sinfonia.
In Calgary, you can’t go wrong with attending the Nutcracker Ballet at the Jubilee Auditorium.
Go Skating
Have you been skating at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza? They have it decked out with holiday décor including a massive tree. Enjoy the sparkling lights, Christmas music and maybe grab a hot chocolate after to warm up.
