How to get a taste of Stampede in 2020
Normally around this time, our city would be donned from head to toe in western wear to celebrate the 10-day festival that Calgary has come to be famous for. However, 2020 had other plans.
But, community spirit cannot be cancelled! In true Stampede fashion, there are still a number of ways you can enjoy some of your favourite parts of the festival in an alternate way.
Watch Stampede Fireworks
- July 3 and July 12
- 11 PM
There will be two fireworks displays (one to commemorate the start of Stampede and one at the “end”) from Stampede Park which will be even bigger than usual so you can enjoy them from a distance. If you can see the city skyline, you’ll see them. There will also be a live broadcast of the fireworks on CTV (television and online).
Mini Donut Drive-Thru
- July 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11
- Noon to 9 pm
- Stampede Park
This requires a pre-purchase of tickets which include two dozen mini donuts AND two gate admissions to sneak-a-peek at the 2021 Calgary Stampede (which will likely be the best year yet). This is a great time to support the Stampede and taste those amazing mini donuts, so you can purchase tickets here.
Stampede Food Truck Rally
- July 4 and 5
- Noon to 9 pm
- Stampede Park
This is a taste of the Stampede midway but drive-thru style. YYC Food Trucks is bringing Calgarians some of the best Stampede treats like corn dogs and cotton candy. Make sure you read all the details about how this will work by clicking here.
Pancake Drive-Thru for Kids
- July 8
- 9 am to 4 pm
- Stampede Park
How can it be early July without pancake breakfast!? There is a free pancake breakfast on July 8th at Stampede Park, which is still BMO Kids’ Day. This requires pre-registration, so you can do that online here.
How to celebrate Stampede at home
The Calgary Stampede has graciously compiled some tools for you to celebrate Stampede at home, including themed playlists, Zoom backgrounds and Stampede 2020 shirts. Explore all they have to help your celebrations at home.
